During springtime the Jezreel Valley rests like a jewel in the embrace of the surrounding Carmel and Galilean hillsides; these are densely covered with silvery olive and dark green pine trees. Seasonal wildflowers cloak these hills in brilliant hues of scarlet and purple and one can still, as in ancient times, ‘behold the lilies of the field'.

As recorded on the walls of the Egyptian Temple at Karnak some 3500 years ago, horses have been raised in this fertile valley since time immemorial. Although traditionally these horses were raised as instruments for war, today they serve a far more peaceful purpose.

The ‘Jezreel Valley’, or ‘the valley sown by God’, lends itself beautifully to the breeding of fine horses. Each season deep, thick fields of grasses and grains burst through the rich black soil. Hot dusty summers, spelled by mild rainy winters, help grow horses of dense bone, strong hooves and unusually sound constitutions.

At Ariela Arabians we have for decades carried on the ancient and noble horse-breeding tradition of the Near East; continuing the practice where the gifting of a horse symbolizes an act of goodwill between allied or disparate peoples.

Ariela Arabians raises some of the world’s most celebrated Arabian horses at our beautiful farm in HaYogev. This quiet, cozy village is tucked into the southwest corner of the Jezreel Valley, seemingly under the watchful gaze of ancient Mount Megiddo. Megiddo is renowned as the site where, according to early Jewish sources and later Islamic tradition, the Israelite King Solomon once stabled horses ‘brought from Egypt and all countries’ that were of such excellence that ‘their magnificence knew no precedence’.

[“And they found rich good pasture, and the land was wide and quiet, and peaceable.” Chronicles I:1:40]

The farm was originally established in the mid-1980s and our core farm philosophy was conceived and refined early on: that Arabian horses, with their intrinsic beauty and special charm are the perfect vehicle for bringing like-minded horse lovers together, no matter what ethnic, religious or political differences purportedly keep them apart.

This vision has been satisfyingly fulfilled, with fine horses bred at Ariela gracing major farms in Israel, throughout the Middle East, and in other far-flung corners of the world. Our farm philosophy has always been to share good horses with the world, and at any time one will find several of our homebred horses outside the country, on lease to farms in Europe, America, Africa, or the Near East.

From its very beginnings the farm has sought and leased the finest Arabian stallions, some more famous than others, to shape and consolidate the look of our own herd. These, among others, included the likes of Paris World Champion Imperial Imdal (Ansata Imperial x Dalia), Nader Al Jamal (Ansata Sinan x Savannah CC), and Al Ayad (Moheeb x Al Mamunah).

The farm also established a working relationship with major breeding farms in the Arabian Gulf countries - long before the Abraham Accords were even envisioned.

The heart of our program has from the start been a superior group of straight Egyptian broodmares. Today most of these mares trace back to the recently deceased

and legendary black mare, The Vision HG (Thee Desperado x Belle Staar), and the important foundation mares Saniyyah RCA (Mishaal HP x My Shooting Star), Insha Sha Latifa (Ansata Selman x Naffada), AK Latifa (Ibn Moniet el Nefous x Siralima), and Imperial Kalatifa (Imperial al Kamar x AK Latifa).

Since 1999 and until today we have built a singular and enduring relationship with the historic state studs of Poland after accepting Poland’s invitation of leasing our own homebred stallions, first Laheeb (Imperial Imdal x AK Latifa) and later Al Maraam (Imperial Imdal x The Vision HG), to stand in Poland at various times as guest sires, an unprecedented honor for the farm. In the years to follow other Ariela-bred stallions have continued this tradition and stood for a time in Poland. The excellent progeny resulting from this longtime collaboration has had a lasting influence on bloodlines in Poland and Arabian breeding worldwide.

Ultimately this cooperation led to us establishing our own Egyptian-cross program alongside the straight Egyptian one. This program is based mostly on select Laheeb and Al Maraam daughters that were bred in Poland and brought home to Israel; these trace back to some rare and irreplaceable Polish mare families. The descendants of this Egyptian-cross program have proven to be superlative breeding stock and are highly competitive show horses in both Israel and abroad.

Throughout the years the farm’s horses have competed with much success on the world stage in numerous prestigious halter competitions. Among the hundreds of awards exhibited in our trophy room are the industry’s most highly coveted award earned by four of the farm’s homebreds — the two stallions Al Lahab (Laheeb x The Vision HG) and Al Ayal AA (Al Ayad x The Vision HG), and the mares Loubna (Imperial Imdal x Imperial Kalatifa), and Badawiyah AA (Laheeb x Bahiha), all of which were awarded world championship titles in Paris.

Presently our herd consists of some forty plus Arabians, the vast majority of which are straight Egyptians, that rare and historic ‘breed within a breed’ comprising less than 5% of all living purebred Arabians worldwide. Grey remains the favorite and dominant color at the farm, with an occasional individual sporting a differently colored coat.

Quality is the benchmark of our success, and breeding horses of true and classic Arabian type, the kind that has never ceased to grab the attention of horse lovers over countless centuries, remains our constant standard, and its pursuit a never-ending challenge and joy.
